Usually to do that digsite in the future, wait before excavating the last part. Set your fleet into the system and give him the middle finger. Shard needs a year to sterilize that planet, so it leaves you time to go at him once. I'd say Shard is roughly equal in strengh to the Ether Drake. Around 30k fleet power should work fine, unless maybe if your loadouts are totally crappy. 15k (maybe even less) are enough if you hard-counter it. Triggering the dragon early has its benefits, a few saves ago i had two systems bordering a hostile alien empire, one of them being the Rubicator system - It would have been really expensive to fortify both so i just triggered Shard to appear and take care of blocking one of them off for me. I had the system this thing spawns from spawn right next to my home system. I didn't know what it was and researched everything right away. The damn dragon spawned in my home system and now I can't get any trade value and need to use a different colony for a shipyard until I can get enough power to remove it. CountAccountant. When the event was first added, the dragon only engaged in space combat and left the colony alone.
