Harman curve. - If I apply the Harman curve found online, that curve was devised using a specific measurement rig and measurement method, some other dude generously sharing his own measurement of a headphone will typically not get measurements that will perfectly align with that same headphone if it was measured on the Harman rig. That's another …

A bit too much around 8-10K, but nevertheless pleasant. I recently bought the CCA C10, which is punchy and clear, but far too aggressive in the upper mids. This pretty much follows the Harman curve, and is fine for low volume listening. I have the AKG N40 which I do like apart from the boosted mid bass which makes them sound muffled without EQ.

Crinacle said he prefers ER2XE than ER2SE, so the bass should be slightly boosted. Personally, +10db boost at 2kHz pushes the vocals too forward in my face for me.476. Likes. 213. May 19, 2023. #1. I find the additional 5-9 kHz energy in the Harman 2019 IE target over the Harman 2016 IE target (which is the Harman 2013 OE target with more bass) to be harsh and brittle sounding. I compared the Harman 2019 IE target to my relatively flat on-axis Infinity p363 stereo pair and heard no such harshness.Harman Curve is just an analysis of what the average person likes. Remember the Harman Curve isn't a "flat" curve. You can EQ to flat with speakers in a room, but it is almost impossible to achieve that in headphones. One person's flat wouldn't be flat for another person with a different shaped ear canal. The Harman Curve is an averaged response that people polled said that they preferred. I am not a fan of the Harman curve either. For me it is a starting point for EQ. For me personally it has too much bass and too much treble, so I cut down on both. Others have mentioned a few reasons, as I see it: 1. The Harman curve is an average. No harm in falling outside the average. Your preferences are different. No harm with that! 2.The Harman curve has too much bass and treble for my taste, like a teenager cranking up a "V" shaped EQ. Doesn't sound realistic to me, each to his own. I prefer to apply a simple EQ that partially corrects the broad deviations but doesn't try to follow every wiggle in the response.May 18, 2022. This morning balanced armature maker Knowles unveiled a white paper outlining a new frequency curve as a response to the longstanding “Harman Curve” that serves as a guide for headphone design. The idea is one of the more complicated but important concepts that audiophiles wrestle with in their pursuit for good sound. Banbeucmas mentioned that the default Treble Boost setting almost perfectly follows the Harman Target with the exception of the very high frequencies. Comparing the Treble Boost curve with the Flat curve from u/mr_boizoff, the gain at 16k Hz needs to be dropped even further than -4 to line up with the Harman Target to -8.
